After some time off the ice and going back to play rec in Basingstoke and completely falling in love with the sport again it’s time to come back to my home rink. With the visions of Jeff’s plans with the team we are all ready to get the season underway.
It’ll be great to be back on the ice with some of the guys I grew up playing juniors with here at Oxford, along with some new faces.

Director Announcement!

We are pleased to share that Reuben Diffey (Director of Property Formula) will join the board of Directors for the Oxford Rising Stars!

Reuben has always been fanatical about sport and supporting others developing their sporting passions.

Reuben’s own career began at just 12 when he won the UK Superkids championship competition.

Reuben continued his all round sporting career as he competed in modern pentathlon for England in the U16 and U18 in the 1990 and 1992 European athletic championships.

Following an injury in 1996 aged just 22 Reuben broke his hip falling from his horse whilst training for the seniors finals in Berlin, ending his sporting career.

Since then Reuben has followed and supported a wide range of sports and supported sporting charities.

Reubens first ice hockey encounter was in 2006 watching the Varsity match in Oxford, but it took a further introduction from Russ Shrives in 2017 to see the local team play at Oxpen’s to cement that interest.

Reuben’s passion to see local talent develop and players bond and support their growth as a team has been captured right here at the Oxford Rising Stars, so it is with great pleasure we introduce Reuben Diffey as one of your new Rising Stars Directors.

Oh, and finally, Reuben didn’t ever do Pentathlon!!

Ask Reuben about anything property, land and his black Labrador, Florence.

Director Russ Shrives said:

“Reuben has been involved in Oxford ice hockey for a number of years. Having previously been a member of the Rising Stars board, he will be a great addition to our club as a director. Bringing a wealth of business experience which will help us plan and develop at board level. This will filter down through the club in the quality and standards that we are building. I am very much looking forward in working with Reuben and the other Directors in growing the club on and off the ice”

Director Announcement!

We are pleased to share that Enis Evlat (Director of Silent View Windows and Thame Builders) will join the board of Directors for the Oxford Rising Stars!

Enis said:
“I am excited to announce my interest in joining the Oxford Rising Stars Ice Hockey Team as a director. With my personal involvement in the sport, including playing recreational hockey and supporting my children in their training and development, I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact this team has on young athletes. As my children progress, they may even have the opportunity to play alongside the Rising Stars. Therefore, it is in my best interest to ensure the team moves in the right direction.”

“The current directors have done a fantastic job, providing young adults and youths with the chance to experience league sports and learn valuable skills from experienced players. However, there is much more to the team than just playing on the ice. Behind the scenes, there are numerous tasks and responsibilities that contribute to the team’s growth and success. To ensure the Rising Stars continue to thrive in this manner, I am eager to contribute my skills and expertise as a director. Together, we can ensure the team’s continued growth and success both on and off the ice.”

Director Paul Lynch said:
“After several discussions with Russ we came to the conclusion that to take the club to the next level we needed to strengthen our board of Directors.

“I sat down with Enis after he called me showing interest in getting involved with our club and it was an easy decision to get him on board as a Director. He is very passionate and has some fantastic ideas and we feel he will be an asset and great addition to the club ”

“Enis has two children playing in the Oxford Junior Stars so its great for him to be involved with the Rising Stars as hopefully both his children will be using this pathway to senior ice hockey.”

Welcome Darryl Morvan as Head of Development Pathway!

We are pleased to announce that Darryl Morvan will be Head of Development Pathway for the season!

Darryl said:
“When Warren approached me two years about helping out with Rising Stars, the thing that really appealed to me was that the ethos was around setting up a pathway between the Junior Stars through to the Stars, and it was apparent that if a success could be made of Rising Stars then that would increase the chance of that pathway coming to fruition.

Two years down the line, we’ve seen junior players training and making their senior debuts with the Rising Stars, and players from the Rising getting opportunities to train and play with the Stars. A big motivation for me coming back to hockey was being in a position where I might be able to help effect positive change. When we look at the successful seasons the Stars have had in their recent history, one thing that jumps out is that the teams were built around home grown talent, and I think to increase the chance of a sustainable setup, working to get back to that will only be good for hockey in Oxford.

I like to think working as part of the coaching team over the last two years I’ve helped with that, but when Paul and Russ approached me about setting up this new role and asking me to take it on, I was very excited at the vision they have for the role. My job will be to make the communication between all the partnerships in Oxford Ice Hockey even better, and to work with, and support, all of them to continue the progress that has been made so far.

Initially I see that as strengthening the pathway between the juniors and Rising Stars, getting more young athletes having the opportunity to practice and play up to NIHL2. The difference between junior and senior hockey can be massive, and since the inception of Rising Stars a valuable stepping stone has been put in place to try to make the transition for the young athletes less of a leap, and more of a step.

The other important part of my role will be to try to get players from Rising progressing through to the Stars. When you look around the country at the strongest organisations, they have been built on a solid junior programme, and then the young athletes being able to transition into senior hockey, with the ultimate aim to play the highest level they can in their own “home town” club. I’m confident that if you asked most young players in Oxford were, then they would include striving to get to play for the Stars.

I think the relationship between myself, Jeff and Darren is superb, we all respect each other and want the best for the athletes and the future of hockey in Oxford, and that we can all have honest and positive conversations based on those foundations. I will also be doing everything I can to develop a strong working relationship with the management team of the Stars, and pushing for athletes from Rising to be given the opportunity to step up to the Stars, which will in turn allow more opportunities for juniors coming through to Rising.

I’m eager to start work and will be working hard to repay the trust that Paul, Russ and the other directors have given to me by offering me this role.

Welcome Ian Dibley as Community Liaison Officer!

We are pleased to announce that Ian Dibley will be our Community Liaison Officer this season!

Ian said:
“I am delighted to accept the invitation to be Commercial Manager and Community Liaison Officer.”

“The Oxford Rising Stars is a very important bridge in our developing player pathway, linking the Junior Club to the Oxford City Stars. We need a strong and stable structure to be able to support our athletes to make that transition into senior hockey and I am excited that both of the roles will contribute to support them and raising their profile whilst doing so. I hope that we be able to give opportunities, make memories and create positive experiences.”

“When we look at ice hockey in Oxford, it involves a lot of teams and players and although each has its own identity, it is important that we are all working together not only player pathway but to improve the sport for all, particularly here in Oxford. I hope that my continued involvement, with many of these teams, will continue to push this forward.”

“I’m looking forward to the up and coming season. After a couple of years away, I’m excited to be back at it in Oxford with the Rising Stars! Will be another good chance to develop young talent and pass on my experience to another group of players.”

Head Coach Jeff said:
“Having Chris come on to the coaching staff is a big win for us. He brings a wealth of knowledge about the game, is incredibly passionate and fits the club work ethic perfectly.”

“Chris will be especially good with the younger players. Both of us are excited now to get started. The season can’t come soon enough.”
