I’m Happy to be returning to Oxford this year, stepping down a head coach last year, although born out of necessity for me personally, Really helped me on the ice with my performance.

Having someone I could hand over too I trusted in Darryl made my decision really easy, I’m so happy he is back involved and will now be doing what he does best, getting the youngsters from Oxford on a platform and pushing them forward.

Going into the summer I was looking forward to the break before making any decisions on if I’d be back. I’m really proud of what we have achived over the last two years, however the lack of opportunity for youngsters on a pathway last year was incredibly disappointing to me, anyone in a rising jersey could’ve stepped up last year at any point as they did in our inaugural season.

Bringing Jeff back in was something I was incredibly happy with (special thanks to Tan Norris for the idea). Him taking over as head coach feels so natural to me. I coached (in my own special way) under jeff with the juniors for 8 years. To have played and to be playing with some of those kids is a sense of enormous pride. Knowing Jeff and Darryl are going to be ensuring youngster get a chance lets me rest at ease and enjoy my twilight years.

The youngsters coming in have great role models this year. Guys like Dax, Josh, Sam, Joey and others I can’t name right now. As I’ve never hid, my personal experience of coming into the stars as a youngster drove me away for 10 years and to stop playing for 2, but every single one of the more experienced players in this squad were always helpful, supportive and constructive in everything they did.

From personal experience of the guys coming to rising this year, this really is a team youngsters can learn from and develop in. If I was 17 again, I’d have never left with these guys and the guy’s Jeff has around them and Darryl driving youngsters through. Pairing that with Paul & Russ the rising really are doing something special in Oxford and as it has since day 1, a positive future for Oxford Ice Hockey.

I’m excited to get going for what will be an exciting year.
